Ahead of today's U.S.-China summit in Washington, D.C., a UC Riverside lecturer undertook Sino-American diplomacy on a more modest scale. Gary Barnett toured China as a kind of musical ambassador for UCR from June 20 to July 16. Barnett, who teaches music composition and musicianship, gave concerts and master classes across the country, fostering new relationships with Chinese conservatories and musicians.

​ UC Riverside has been selected to host Belgian audio producer and educator Frank Duchêne next spring as a Fulbright scholar in residence. “This is a great recognition of the teaching and research happening in the UCR Music Department,” said Liz Przybylski, a professor of music at UCR, who led the effort to bring Duchêne to campus.

A spirited new multimedia exhibition at the Smithsonian Institution tells the story of salsa with the help of a UC Riverside associate professor of music. 

EDGE Sound Research, a startup founded by UC Riverside graduates that is focused on creating immersive audio experiences in sports and entertainment, will receive the city of Riverside’s Innovation Award.
