Villa-Lobos Cello Concertos
Cellist Lars Hoefs and pianist Steven Vanhauwaert present rarely heard works by Villa-Lobos for cello and orchestra with piano reductions.
Lars Hoefs is professor of cello and music history at Sao Paulo State University (UNICAMP) in Campinas, Brazil, and previously served as assistant principal cello of the Orquestra Sinfonica Brasileira in Rio de Janeiro. Lars has performed across Europe with pianist and Polish Music Center director Marek Zebrowski, and in California with the Blue Rose Trio and the California Quartet. He earned a BM from Northwestern University and MM and DMA degrees at the University of Southern California studying with Ron Leonard.
Hailed by the Los Angeles Times for his ‘impressive clarity, sense of structure and monster technique’, Belgian pianist Steven Vanhauwaert has garnered a wide array of accolades, amongst which the Grand Prize at the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition. Many of Mr. Vanhauwaert’s performances have been broadcast live on networks such as K-MZT, K-CSN, K-USC, K-PFK, W-HKB, W-UOT, K-UAT, W-FMT, RTBF, WTV, and PBS. He frequently performs in prestiguous venues such as at the National Center for Performing Arts in Bejing, Shanghai's Oriental Arts Center, Segerstrom Hall, the Concertgebouw Brugge, and Budapest's Liszt Conservatory Hall.
