A meeting of performers and scholars of the Mexican son in its many traditions - jarocho , jalisciense and huasteco . To be discussed: tradition and innovation acrosss borders, new approaches to research, the African roots of the son , and the impact of the music through the film industry.

Quetzal, a Los Angeles-based group presenting Chicano music in collaboration with Son de Madera, one of the best-known son jarocho groups from Veracruz, Mexico.
