Chamber Orchestra

The UCR Chamber Orchestra is a select string orchestra whose members include both UCR students and members of the community. The Chamber Orchestra, founded in 1999 by conductor Ruth Charloff, performs classics for string orchestra such as the String Serenades by Dvorak, Elgar and Suk, Britten’s Simple Symphony, Grieg’s Holberg Suite, Bach’s third Brandenburg Concerto, Hindemith’s Trauermusik, William Grant Still's Danzas de Panama, Bloch’s Concerto Grosso No. 1, and works by Albinoni, Purcell, Handel, Vaughan Williams, Holst, Hovhaness, Gershwin, Kennen and José Elizondo. The orchestra also includes winds for works like a Stravinsky suite, a Mozart symphony or concerto, and other repertoire for small orchestra.

The Chamber Orchestra program comprises a sister group as well, the Woodwind Serenade, performing such wind repertoire as Kurt Weill’s Little Threepenny Music, serenades by Dvorak and Strauss, and the Petite Symphonie of Gounod.
